Welcome to my blog.

Its my first blog ever. I’m just going to let that soak in a bit. Sometimes I drift back into my Luddite mode as technology races ahead and I’m stuck trying to figure out the old technology, but where there’s change there will be opinion on change.

Guess I should give a bit more background, other than the importance of being a part time Luddite. I work here at Black Oak Brewing and have been doing so for a while. Been to school for biology up in Ottawa and then later on back for business management here in Toronto. Did a bit of a stint in the corporate world where I got my accounting designation, but felt the entrepreneurial tug every time a meeting was called and donuts were served. Throughout that time I became more experienced in the Craft Beer World. Lots of studying and market research was done as I worked at Denison’s and going up the street to Ryerson.

I thought I learned a lot from business school and even more from studying the craft beer industry, but in my opinion, there’s a whole lot more to making great craft beer!

The market has changed dramatically from everybody asking for “Lite Beer” all the time to people actually knowing what goes into beer. Fortunately the market and the Craft Beer industry are also growing and we’re working pretty hard to keep up. Black Oak’s been growing slow and steady. I work with some great people and I think we make great handcrafted craft beer.

So in my opinion, things have changed and I’ll be using this interweb bloggy thing to spout some of my crafty opinions. With luck and some coaching it’ll be fun to read and you may learn a thing or three from an insider perspective.
